Abstract

Abstract: This critical review visits the first Brazilian publication of the book "Natural Enemies of Books: A Messy History of Women in Printing and Typography," published by the Clube do Livro do Design. It examines the complex and often overlooked participation of women in the history of printing and typography. The book highlights the barriers faced by women in an industry traditionally dominated by men, revealing the ways in which they have significantly contributed to the field despite adversities. The work explores the stories of pioneering women who challenged gender norms to make their mark in typography and printing, and who were often erased or underestimated in the official historical narrative.
