Abstract

The present research aims to investigate markers of Africanities in the conceptions of birth, life and death of black people in the interior of Piauí. Such markers can be identified in the experiences and daily lives of black people in the municipality of Corrente-PI, where I was born. To report stories, which are at the same time private and social, I followed the path of Conceição Evaristo's Writing, which allowed me to portray collective experiences, with a common ground between author and protagonist. Many markers were lost and some that still remained were not recognized by that community as a marker of their African roots. Thus, in the dingo-dingo of the meetings, it was possible to recognize how Afro-Brazilian and African-based religions maintain alive conceptions about life and are capable of giving back to us what is stolen from us by the West: markers of Africa that can bring us health mental. Therefore, it was possible to understand the Western conception of death, identify markers of the Africanities that resist in this context and generate life and hope through the search for the roots of black people in the interior of Piauí.
