Abstract

This text pays tribute to Professor and researcher Igor Sacramento (1983–2025), a rising figure in the fields of Communication, History, and Health studies in Brazil. A researcher at the Laboratory of Research on Communication and Health at the Institute of Communication and Scientific and Technological Information in Health, part of the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Laces/Icict/Fiocruz), and a permanent faculty member of the Graduate Program in Communication and Culture at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (PPGCOM/UFRJ), Igor passed away prematurely in Paris while pursuing a postdoctoral fellowship. He was my supervisor for five years, during my master’s and part of my doctoral studies in the Graduate Program in Communication and Culture at UFRJ. I highlight here three common threads that connected us: our shared love for telenovelas—which was the first bond between us—his unwavering belief in education as a tool for transformation, and the shared experience of being Black gay men in academic spaces.
